In one word… Evolution!
This is not a ‘New Year’s Resolution’! In the past year, I have become more proactive with setting goals and trying to achieve them. Not just once a year. If I don’t manage, I just try again and again, making adjustments until I do. I am constantly striving for change.
I have the power to shape my own future. Whatever happens, I am responsible for my own lifestyle and circumstances. Even though there are outside factors that influence you that you cannot control, you can mould your perceptions to benefit you. This is not easy!! Trust me. I have many old perceptions that I’m trying to change, but as they say… recognising something is wrong, it’s the first step to changing it. Every day consists of scores of choices that you make. In every instance it’s either good for you, or bad for you. The consequences of your choices are not always immediately apparent. It comes down to your consistent choices. If you consistently choose a burger instead of an apple, you won’t notice the difference, in a day, a week or even a year. But believe me, the impact that small choice has on you in 5 years will be like night and day! I have been making the wrong choices for a long time now and the result is obvious. Now, my Mantra this year is to trust in ’The Slight Edge’* If it’s easy to do, it’s also easy not to do… The choice is mine and mine alone. I will be choosing much more wisely from now on!
Though it may not seem like it to any outside observer. I've learned over the years that ultimately whatever happens you walk your path alone. This may sound cynical, but unless you have someone whose journey is completely aligned with yours, you're on your own. Walking your own journey does not mean you cannot help other people along the way... (or accept support for that matter) In fact, it's the opposite. The more secure you are in your own path and goals, the more steadfast you become, and anyone needing support would want to find an oak tree to lean against, rather than cling to wisps or long grass. Be the oak tree - Firmly grounded, and still reaching for the sky without limit, and without hesitation. Your sole purpose is to grow! This year is about me finding my true purpose and following it no matter what. Inherently I want to help people, but to do that I need to find myself first. This process has reinvigorated my quest for growth. I will strive to be the best I can be. Unfettered by the judgement of others I will find my way. I WILL stumble and fall, but I WILL pick myself up every time.
I know there are many people out there who don't believe me, who believe that it's just another phase and that I will falter as always. I understand where this is coming from...
I have said many times that things will change, and according to outside perception it hasn't. But it's ok, I know what has changed, and that's good enough for me.
All I can say is... One day, I will come out of the shadows. It could be this year or the next decade. It does not matter. I BELIEVE!

This is one of my favourite images that embody the strength of the mighty Oak Tree that - with infinite patience - grows from a simple acorn and does not stop! The artwork range is absolutely stunning if anyone would like to browse her site.
